Brown Owl Bracelet

$38.00

Imagine this: it's 1978, about 4 pm in the afternoon. You find yourself in a room of 25 little girls, all excited to be at Brownies with their friends. The volume is incredibly loud, the energy level is high, and you are in charge of it all. This was the life of a Brown Owl.

The Girl Guides of Canada has changed a lot over the years. More modern, more inclusive, less preoccupied with gender roles. One thing never changes though, and that is the leadership. It takes a lot to commit yourself to this organization, and it was no different in the 1970s.

The leader of any Brownie Pack was the Brown Owl. Helpers included the Tawny Owl and the Snowy Owl. My Brown Owl was Mrs Bennett. To say she was a special person is an understatement.

There are a few incidents from my childhood that I remember Brown Owl for. I'm not going to get into details. I will say that she was the most supportive adult that I knew.

Mrs Bennett passed away a few weeks ago. I hadn't seen her or her daughter (my childhood friend) for about 45 years. I went to her funeral and completely fell apart. I haven't cried like that in a very long time.

It was easy to figure out a piece to honour her. Here's The Brown Owl Bracelet!

Glass, stainless steel, copper alloy
