Coal Miner's Daughter Earrings

$35.00

One Saturday afternoon, about ten years ago, I decided I would go completely retro and watch Coal Miner's Daughter, the movie about Loretta Lynn. It's a great movie, great acting from Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones.

On this occasion, Juliet wandered into the family room and watched it with me. Having lived a fairly sheltered life when it came to movies and TV up to this point, she had never heard a really heavy Southern accent. She asked me why they were talking that way. I paused the movie and spent way too long explaining accents and the various different ones, and how totally fascinating that the same language can sound so different based on geography, etc. She probably regretted asking me about it, because I went on for so long.

What really made her regret it though, was that after the movie was over, I spent the rest of the day and evening perfecting my own version of the Southern accent. Once I got started I couldn't stop!! She put up with this for quite a while before telling me that I had to stop, now. My accent was truly awful, VERY annoying, super twangy and probably fit into every possible terrible stereotype of what the Southern accent is. I did not sound charming. I did not sound like a lady.

The best part of all this, is that to this day, if I ever need to get Juliet to do something, or to stop doing something, all I have to do is threaten to do the accent! She will do anything I ask to avoid hearing me talk like this. I have to keep this tactic for emergencies only.

And so, here are the Coal Miner's Daughter Earrings!

Sterling silver, stainless steel, enamel, obsidian
