Lahaina Necklace

This past Christmas, my family took a trip to Hawaii. Of course it was beautiful — except for one part. The drive through Lahaina on Maui was heartbreaking.

A couple of years ago, the entire area was on fire. Homes and businesses — many of them generational, many of them holding whole histories — were destroyed. It was tragic from both a human and a historic point of view.

Not much has been rebuilt yet. Too much red tape and politics, according to the Uber driver.

I wanted to make something beautiful to remember how Lahaina used to be, and also to look forward to the someday when it is either returned to nature or rebuilt into something new.

A small piece of beauty to honour what was, and to for what will be again some day.
