It’s funny — all my memories of Old Montreal happened decades after my family moved away. And wow, did I make up for lost time.
There was the wedding I attended while extremely pregnant, where everyone kept smiling at me like I was carrying the royal baby. Very sweet. Then there was my first visit to one of those fancy restaurants where they literally show you the cut of meat before you approve it. I felt like a very important carnivore.
There was a sibling summit at the Sans Souci — pure joy, great company, and meals so good they should’ve been illegal. One restaurant was even in a former wartime bunker, which made me feel like I was dining inside a history book.
And of course, the convention trip with my dear friend Monique, which included one excellent meal and… a lot of nonsense. The fun kind.
Through all of it, Old Montreal was the star: historic buildings, cobblestone streets, charm dripping from every corner. It’s one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a story.
