California, 1998. Driving Highway 1 from San Francisco to Los Angeles is already spectacular — cliffs, ocean, that endless ribbon of blue. But there was one stop I was really looking forward to. Near Santa Barbara sits a castle you’ve definitely heard of: Hearst Castle, also known as San Simeon.
We were running short on time, and I almost decided to skip it.
WOW am I glad we didn’t.
This place is magnificent. The pools, the tiles, the decor, the history — all of it lodged in my brain forever. The indoor pool especially… those deep blues and golds, those perfect geometric tiles.
These earrings remind me of the tiles in that pool — shimmering, ornate, unforgettable.
